What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of mind, linked to a relaxed physical state, often referred to as "trance". Trance states are natural, and every human being experiences trance every day. Day dreaming, watching TV, listening to a story or to music are all trance states in varying form. Hypnotic trance is beneficial because it:

  • Reduces stress in the body.
  • Reduces stress in the mind.
  • Allows you to easily contact your subconscious mind and make any changes you desire.

How do you achieve trance?

You achieve trance by a series of guided, simple relaxation techniques. You experience a pleasant, relaxed feeling with a sense of quiet calm, and yet you are awake and in complete control.

Will I lose control?

You do not "lose control", you ultimately gain control. Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness, where your subconscious is focused and available to your beneficial suggestions. You will most likely hear everything that is being said, and you will be in complete control. All hypnosis is, in fact, self hypnosis; you go into trance only as much as you want to.

Is it stage hypnosis?

Although it uses similar techniques, stage hypnosis is showmanship, and so can appear strange as people are asked to do unusual or humorous things. However, it is impossible to hypnotise someone to do something they do not want to do (no matter how entertaining a stage show might appear!)

In therapeutic hypnosis a person's dignity is always the foremost consideration. Suggestions match your mental ecology with total respect for you and your needs. You remain awake, aware, and completely in control during the process.
